Day 8 Devotion

A Cry for Revival

Reading Daniel 9:1 through 19, we learn that when Daniel understood that Judah and Jerusalem were carried away into captivity for seventy (70) years (verse 2) and that it was because of their sin that this destruction had come upon them (verses 5, 6, 10, 11, and 12), Daniel prayed, confessed the sins of his people, and sought God’s intervention for his country.

Today we, having read and studied God’s Word, watch the national news on TV and read the local news papers and understand that our nation, out state, and our city has sinned against God. God’s principles have been kicked out of our government’s organizations and out of our schools. Our society is embracing homosexuality and abortion. God’s people are being ridiculed for praying in Jesus name and teaching God’s creation. We, as a people who understand God’s Word, should understand that God’s judgment is coming on our nation (just as God judged Judah in the time of Daniel).

Now is the time for God’s people (you and me) to cry out to God for a revival, a return to living according to God’s Word and God’s principles. It is election time in our nation, which is an opportunity for God’s people to vote for people most likely to support God’s principles. More importantly, God’s people have an opportunity to pray: confessing our personal and national sins and ask God to intervene to turn our nation back to Him.

Daniel 9:19 NKJV “O Lord, hear! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, Listen and act! Do not delay for Your own sake, my God, for Your city and Your people are called by Your name.”
